Its the End Of Summer

The end of the summer of 2015 is finally here and it flew by didn’t it? We had a lot of rain here in North Texas this past spring, which is probably why if seemed to go by so quickly.

In North Texas our summers typically start around mid-April or the first week of May. When a cold front moves in and our temps are lower than the 90s we are excited!

There are some things for the home owner to consider as the weather changes. The foundation and the exterior of your home is affected by weather changes. As the temperature drops from the 100s to the 90s and on all that mortar around your brick does some crazy things, and homes will be affected because our Texas shifts during all these changes. If you are a Texas homeowner, do a quick checkup on your home, look around, are new cracks appearing? Are old cracks growing, expanding or getting longer? What about your old cracks? Are they starting to close back up? A lot of things can happen with weather changes.

Examine your concrete, are cracks appearing there? Remember, fall rains will come, and winter is coming. The rain rain will go into those cracks and they can expand. The soil under the concrete will erode away every more, then that concrete will eventually follow and concrete cannot stay put when space begins to be created from the soil eroding away. This will cause a lot of problems and will eventually lead to complete replacement of your patio or driveway.

It is as simple as spending 10 minutes walking around your home and checking things out. If you find a concern, call McFall Masonry and Construction, we would be happy to come out and take a look. If a repair is needed, it will cost a lot less then replacement or rebuild.

Take a walk around the inside of your home, with weather changes you may find drywall cracks, flooring opening slightly, floor tile cracking, which is never a good thing. Look at the corners of windows and doors, are there little cracks up in those corners, any gaps. All these things I’ve mentioned can happen with weather changes, and one thing is for sure, rarely does the crack close back up. There are times cracks can close up, but more often than not, we have found that cracks just do not go back to completely disappearing or going back to where it once was.

Don’t hesitate to call McFall Masonry and Construction for all your home improvement needs and repairs.

Caleb Francis's Rating
Dan and team did a fantastic job for us. We had them extend our driveway quite a bit and add stone around our flower gardens. They gave us a fair price, communicated well, and completed the work very timely with excellence. Highly recommend. Caleb Francis
Joe Riggs's Rating
Quality, detailed work. Dan and team built our custom firepit. It perfectly matches our existing brick. We had a minor issue pop up a few months after completing the job but they took care of it in less than 24 hours; they stand behind their work! Highly recommend. Joe Riggs
